Summary
  • Name: Adam "Clem" Bennett.
  • Location: London, UK
  • I do front-of-house sound for live acts, and have been doing so since 1997.
  • Having worked across six continents for over ten years, I can work amicably with people in any country.
  • I have worked on some of the worlds biggest festivals, and most prestigious venues, so I can do the "big shows".

Bands I have worked for

Arch Enemy: The Swedish melodic extreme metal band has kept me happily employed since 2006, touring extensively, including the Americas (From Canada to Chile), Asia/Pacific (from Maldives to New Zealand), Europe/Russia, the Middle East, and playing main stages at many festivals including Wacken, Download, Graspop, Loud Park, Hellfest, Metalfests, Metalcamp and Gigantour in the US and Asia with Megadeth. Through Arch Enemy I also get to mix the sublime hard-rockin' Spiritual Beggars.

The Jim Jones Revue: More than a Rock 'n' Roll revival group, this London band mix Jerry Lee Lewis with The Clash to make a plate of boogie-woogie punk rock served up in a sauce of man-sweat. Popular worldwide, and particularly in France, they are a hard-working band who I am always happy to tour with when I can.

Funeral For a Friend: This commercially successful post-hardcore band UK had me mix their FOH sound from 2005 to 2008, taking in several US tours, including Taste Of Chaos and Warped tour. They featured on the main stages of Reading/Leeds and Download during my tenure with them.

Other bands to regularly use my services in recent years are The Treatment, The Horrors, Dragonforce, Bullet For My Valentine and  Fightstar.

I have also toured with The Meanies, Samael, Romance, Doro Pesch, The Script, Brand New, Kids In Glass Houses, In Case Of Fire, Just Jack, Boy Kill Boy, Mercenary, and the Cancer Bats, amongst others.

When I lived in Australia, pre-2003, I worked with popular local acts including punk rock stalwarts Frenzal Rhomb and The Meanies, Dallas Crane, 28 Days, Unwritten Law (USA), the Dropkick Murphys (USA) and classic rockers Even.

The usual questions

People usually ask the same things when they are thinking about employing a front of house engineer. I'll save you some time and answer them in advance.

Q: Why should I employ you?
A: Your band will sound loud, punchy, hi-fi, yet mean and dirty when required. I know how to make a band kick-ass without actually deafening people. I have done so many shows in dB-limited environments (city festivals, Swiss or Swedish clubs) that I have the knack of making it sound crushing, without breaking local government "fun police" laws (much). I love to chase guitar solos on the desk. The kids never miss a note.

Q: What venues have you mixed bands in?
A: Where haven't I worked? In hometown London, the Astoria (RIP), Hammersmith Apollo, Brixton Academy, Shepherd's Bush Empire and most smaller venues have been regular shows for me. I have worked in many clubs, theatres and arenas throughout the UK and the USA, almost every recognised venue in Australia, and in theatres, clubs and other venues throughout Europe, Japan, Russia, Canada, and South America. The artists I work for are always breaking new markets, so I am continually being thrown back into small club gigs, saving me from getting too comfortable on those easy big shows.

Q: Do you tour manage, drive, do monitors?
A: No.

Q: Can you help us with our live recording?
A: Of course. I have participated in the recording of many b-sides and other live material, for Funeral For A Friend, Arch Enemy, Boy Kill Boy, Bullet For My Valentine, and others. I am well aquainted with ProTools.

Q: Do you smoke, drink, take drugs, or otherwise cause nonsense at work?
A: I don't smoke, don't do drugs, yet I drink socially, never before a show. I'm not a straight-edge freak, but I am not a drunk or drug addict. I behave like a professional when I am representing your artists on the road.

Q: Can we take you anywhere?
A: Yes. I have both UK and Australian passports (visa-free travel in the EU, Australia and New Zealand), no criminal record, and have never been refused entry to any country. I am familiar with customs and protocol across the world, and relish working within foreign cultures. My clients have come from the UK, Germany, the USA, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Switzerland. I am not afraid of "funny looking" food. I speak fluent English, American, Canadian and Australian.
